Is Bigfoot for real? Maybe... A Clayton County Police officer says he and a friend have the body of a Bigfoot. The animal -- a legendary, hairy hominid that supposedly lives in remote forests -- is said to be dead, frozen, and "shocking." Matthew Whitton, a 28-year-old, who has been with the department for six years, and Rick Dyer, a 31-year-old former correctional officer, posted a video on youtube.com, last week, claiming to have the male Bigfoot corpse. Whitton and Dyer co-own bigfoottracker.com, offering exploration expeditions in the North Georgia Mountains, On their web site Whitton and Dyer announced an alleged discovery: "We have located a family of Bigfoot, and besides the clear photos and video, we have something even more shocking, a BODY." Stay tuned... The Clayton County Police Department responded to the news with an official statement giving the department some distance. "That's his own personal business," said Police Chief Jeff Turner. "That has nothing to do with the business of the Clayton County Police Department. As long as he's not engaged in any type of illegal activity, his business is his business." Turner said it is against department policy for any officer to represent himself or herself online, as an officer or anything other than an individual, private citizen, and said he does not know that Whitton has violated that policy. Whitton is currently on leave, recovering from a gunshot wound to his left hand during a response to a Stockbridge armed robbery earlier this month. The people who believe in Bigfoot and are searching for evidence responded to the announcement with a mixture of disbelief, ridicule and hope. The Bigfoot Field Research Organization, a California-based group claiming there have been 61 Bigfoot sightings in Georgia, officially described Whitton and Dyer as "idiots" and "clowns," and warned their claims are a scam to advertise their business. Tal H. Branco, an Arkansas man who writes a regular column about Bigfoot research, said a lot of Bigfoot people think the whole thing's a hoax, but a lot of people are hoping, too, that they do have a Bigfoot body. "Maybe Whitton did obtain the hard evidence required to solve one of the world's greatest mysteries," Branco said. "It is apparently being promoted by a police officer that has everything to lose as far as his profession is concerned, if it is a game, a hoax or just a joke. On the other hand, if it is true, and the Bigfoot body is in his custody ... his decision to announce it on an Internet web site before the body was examined by an expert certainly indicates a lack of good judgment." In one video, posted online by "RDYER678," Whitton and Dyer interview a "pathologist" who is shocked at the Bigfoot, but then, in a follow-up video, the pair admits the "doctor of pathology" is actually Whitton's brother. Standing in a kitchen, Whitton's brother says to the camera, "Live and let live. What happened to that? Guys just trying to have a little fun, you know?" Dyer said the claims are not a prank, though, and not just an attempt to have fun. Reached on his cell phone Tuesday, he insisted the body is real and will be unveiled on Sept. 1 on the web site. "Why would we jeopardize Matt's job? Why would we risk the embarrassment of the backlash that we would get? We just have a lot to lose if this is a hoax ... I thought Bigfoot trackers and hunters were ridiculous and I made fun of them, to be honest, and I still do. They know nothing as fact. We do," Dyer said. Dyer said the Internet announcement and the obvious lie were meant to draw detractors and "build hype." Other Bigfoot researchers were dismissed by Dyer, and he said he and Whitton are the best trackers because they "have a body." He said the animal is about eight-feet tall, and about equal to the size of "three silverbacks," adult male gorillas, and nothing like the reported descriptions in the books. "I've never seen anything like this," he said. "It's a lot more than animal." Dyer did not say how they came into possession of the carcass, and declined to let a news reporter look at it, but swore it was being well-preserved and would be revealed. Dyer said he and Whitton plan to sell the Bigfoot body and make a lot of money. "As of right now," he said, "we've been offered a million bucks for it, from a very credible source. But we'll make 10 times that. This will change history forever."

Awesome Or Off-Putting: The Jersey Devil

Awesome or Off-Putting is a weekly delve into cryptozoology, ufology, aliens,
medical marvels, scientific wonders, secret societies, government conspiracies,
cults, ghosts, EVPs, myths, ancient artifacts, religion, strange facts, odd
sightings or just the plain unexplainable.
Cryptozoology has a stuffed-full menu of weird creatures that have had dozens of
sightings all over the world. The Jersey Devil has got to be one of the best
known, but it seems it's sightings don't happen quite as much as others in its
great big monster family. Once though, almost a hundred years ago, a whole bunch
of firemen hosed one right off a roof.
Then it attacked a dog and got shot at by police. Quite an experience from all
we've read.

Bigfoot, modern-day cavemen, frog people and the Clutchbone - they're all
members of the monster family, most with historical sightings as well as modern
ones. The Jersey Devil is on that list too. Wikipedia sheds some light on the
matter:

"The Jersey Devil, sometimes called the Leeds Devil, is a legendary creature
or cryptid said to inhabit the Pine Barrens in southern New Jersey. The
creature is often described as a flying biped with hooves, but there are many
variations."

What we believe may be the most intriguing encounter with the beast involves a
time it meandered onto the roof of a local fire chief's home. Two men out for a
walk saw it up there and apparently reported it to the fire department. In the
book Phantom of the Pines: More Tales of the Jersey Devil, author James F.
McCloy gives us more detail:

"Soon the fire department arrived and turned the hose on the Devil. At first
it fled the water by running down the street about one hundred and fifty feet.
Then it turned, and to the panic of its tormentors charged at them. Sticks,
stones, and other missiles had no effect on the rampant Devil, as it bore down
upon the frightened crowd. Fortunately for them, the creature suddenly spread
its wings and soared over them, disappearing into the night."

The Devil then flew off and attacked a dog in a woman's backyard. Said woman
heard the commotion and freed her pet with a swinging broom stick. This
encounter ended with two policemen trigger pulling in the direction of the
monster, but to no effect. Once again it disappeared into the night.
One thing that sets the Jersey Devil apart from other 'mystical' creatures is
that some people claim to know where it lives. Once again we turn to Wikipedia
for details:

"An important piece of the Jersey Devil legend concerns its supposed home at
the Blue Hole located near Winslow, New Jersey. According to popular folklore,
the blue hole is not only bottomless but also acts as one of the many gateways
to Hell. The water in the hole is abnormally cold, even during the summer
months, averaging only 58 degrees Fahrenheit year-round. In addition, the hole
is said to have a whirlpool effect on any person who enters it."

Physical descriptions of the creature very from small and ape-ish to
giraffe-like. It seems in most cases it's agreed the creature has wings, but
that seems to be the only constant. It seems to run away from people without too
much effort, so don't lose sleep over all this if you live in southern New
Jersey, but just the same, if you're going out at night, be sure to check the
skies.

The Bigfoot, Abominable Snowman Mystery

This is one mystery that has capitavted minds in the paranormal and cyrptozoology for a long time, after some 50 years of study many people do not know what too make of the whole phenomena. It has come too public scrutiny, that the famous Patterson film could be a hoax, and it has been common knowledge for a number of years that Pattersons bigfoot, the man in the costume has come forward. Perhaps this adds more mystery, maybe the film was real and this was just too through people off from asking questions? Or, perhaps it was too garner more fame? Who knows for sure, but the real question is, why aren't more bigfoot and yeti researcher more adamant about a person shooting one of these creatures, and solve the mystery completely. I have heard people, in tears! give reason as too why not too shoot it. I don't know, I would think it would be well suited for both researchers and scientists alike too prove it once and for all. After all how is possible that all through the west both Washington State and Britsh Columbia, there has been seen huge footprints? Do so-called jokesters have such free time?...I think it would be wise too have a open season on such a animal, and besides it wasn't till 1919 when the reports from africa about the Mountain Gorilla were taken serious until someone had killed such a animal. But until then research goes on, the eyewitness accounts continue, theres thousands of new prints taken annually this "man
who lives in the woods".

Scientists from New Zealand have added to earlier reports of strange, exotic and unknown creatures inhabiting Antarctic waters.

The researchers on the Tangaro, a research vessel operated by the country's National Institute of Water & Atmospheric Research (NIWA), reported finding starfish more than half a metre across and massive meadows of sea lilies.

The ship returned to New Zealand on Thursday after a seven-week voyage to collect samples of marine life in the Ross Sea, a large bay near Antarctica south of New Zealand.

The Tangaro's discoveries - it returned with more than 30,000 samples -add to the January report from Australian Antarctic marine researchers, who said they found "huge worms, giant crustaceans and sea spiders the size of dinner plates."

Both surveys are part of the Census of Antarctic Marine Life, an effort to survey life in the Antarctic Ocean to establish base lines to measure the impact of forces like climate change.

The New Zealanders may have found as many as eight new mollusks, pending a review by experts to ensure they really are new species, said Stu Hanchet, a NIWA scientist. Hanchet was excited by the sea lilies.

"Some of these big meadows of sea lilies, I don't think anybody has seen before," he said.
